Celebrating the Women Powering Clean Energy

On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the female entrepreneurs and members of our team that are pioneering the advent of clean energy and sustainable construction to build a greener future.

When Subterra Renewables launched in 2018 as a vertically integrated geothermal utility company, CEO Lucie Andlauer took it as an opportunity to increase female participation in the energy, building, construction, and skilled trades sector. As an ardent supporter of renewable energy and strong proponent of inclusion, she made sure the Subterra team was made up of a cross-section of talent.

With ongoing mentorship programs and career development goals established, together with competitive salaries and benefits, the Company is proud to be an industry leader in what continues to be a male-dominated industry.

“It comes down to smart business. We know that female leaders and entrepreneurs are more likely to embrace environmentally friendly behaviours and are early adopters of sustainability practices because they fully understand the correlation between climate change and long-term profitability,” said Ms. Andlauer. “Subterra today is a wonderful reflection of the decision-makers and project leaders who also understand this, and our corporate staff is also reflective of the businesses and consumers we are ultimately marketing and selling to. On behalf of the Subterra team, we are proud that this continues to be a key component in our brand and employer marketing.”

Subterra is currently engaged in discussions with Fleming College in Peterborough, ON – the only college program in Canada providing training in both Resources Drilling and Blasting - to address the industry-wide need for more geothermal drillers and technicians. Lucie is personally engaged in helping to build an apprenticeship framework that will stream graduates into the workforce.

Subterra’s advocacy is also geared at increasing enrollment amongst young women in the skilled trades. Additionally, Lucie is engaged in Scotiabank’s Women Leadership initiative aimed at mentoring the next generation of female entrepreneurs and leaders.
